Reflecting on My Internship with Springible

The semester is winding down and coming to a close, Christmas break is right around the corner. I can’t believe my five-month internship with Resourceable Holdings is almost over. I have learned so much more than I ever expected. I have had the opportunity to meet amazing people within the organization who have helped me grown in the field of communications. At the start of my internship all I knew was the basics of posting to social media. I wasn’t truly aware of how much time it takes to plan out each individual post or the amount of people behind it. One of my main responsibilities was managing the social media The Virginian Golf Club. I was handed the task of scheduling multiple daily posts, coordinating with photographers, creating and sending bi-weekly emails to the club’s members, and I have become more familiar with a wide range of marketing strategies. From press releases, to learning about websites on WordPress, my skills are far more than when I started and I can move on with confidence in my abilities.

One month into my internship I was given a raise and given more responsibilities which I eagerly accepted. However, I quickly learned that trying to balance a full-time job with a 18 credit hours and a 30 hour per week internship was not feasible. If I could go back and tell myself how to better prepare for my internship I would tell myself to be more realistic with what I can handle. I should not have taken on the responsibility of 30+ hours worth of work for my internship and instead said “No”. This is a major lesson I learned that I know I will take with me through life in other jobs and personal life as well.

Some of my favorite projects I worked on during my internship was creating graphics for social media use, like the one shown above and below. It was very interesting to see how our audience reacted to the different types of pictures I would use. I learned that videos usually gain more attention and audience engagement than still photographs.

One personal growth that I saw in myself was my ability to communicate with individual team members. Our team used several forms of communication including daily texts, weekly phone calls, Slack, and Airtable. I learned how to use the different programs as well as the appropriate way to communicate to different team members that would be most effective. My professional presence has improved since completing the COMM 368 ePortfolio. Through the ePortfolio I am able to present myself in a way that I cannot on other social media platforms. The various blog posts that I had to complete over the course of the semester has helped me develop my creative writing skills, something that I hope to continue to work on and improve. I cannot thank my Springible and Virginian team members enough for welcoming me with open arms and providing me with this wonderful opportunity to grow and learn.
